Question: I’d like to pray each day, but I can’t seem to find the time. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer: There are a lot of different ways to incorporate prayer into your daily routine. Start small by setting aside 10 or 15 minutes at natural breaks in your day, like first thing in the morning, during your lunch hour or a child’s nap time, or as the evening winds down just after you’ve brushed your teeth. Put your phone on do not disturb or in airplane mode and set a timer. That way, you won’t be interrupted by others calling or texting – or by yourself checking the time! Pick a place to pray, and sit in the same spot every day. The routine of place can help with focus.

Start with something simple. Scripture is a great start. Pray a single psalm slowly and consider how it relates to your life. Look up the daily Mass Gospel reading on your phone and take the same approach. Take some time to pray for others. Tick off five intentions on your hand each day, or assign each day of the week to a specific person or area of need (i.e., on Mondays, remember the poor, on Tuesdays, pray for your parish, Wednesdays, your extended family). Remember to share honestly with God. Don’t be afraid to speak to Him in your heart as you would a friend out loud. Love grows in real relationship.
